Let Us Eat Cake

Yesterday was our first anniversary! I can't believe it's already been a year! Before we got married a lot of people told me that the first year of marriage is the hardest. I can now say that after having been married for a year, that I have no idea what they are talking about. Yes, there were some challenges but nothing that we couldn't laugh about. We had a good day yesterday. Granted, I spent most of it laying on the couch but it was still good. We have had the top tier of our wedding cake in the freezer (well, my Mom did anyway :) for the past year so I was a little hesitant to actually eat some of it. It was still so dang good though! It tasted just as good as it did a year ago. Jacob didn't actually eat his piece, he just pretended for the picture I made him take.

In the next picture though, you can see that Jacob has left and I am alone at peace with my cake. I ate two pieces. One for me and one for the baby. Yum. I'm hoping to pass along my sweet tooth so that I have someone to eat dessert with me. I can't wait for more years to come and next year, we will have a third person to celebrate with us!

A Happy Post!

I figured after that last post We could all do with something a little bit happier so here is our big (yet not so surprising) news! I'm pregnant! Woo hoo, Woo hoo! I'm pretty sure almost everyone already knows but nothing is official until it has been posted on my blog. ha ha I am due on January 4th. Yesterday began the start of week twelve and what will hopefully also include no more throwing up. I've never been a big fan of it (I always cried when I was little), but the pregnancy version is much worse. I'm sure all you mothers out there will agree with me. Other than that though, I am doing okay. I don't have energy to do much of anything, which kind of sucks, but it is nice that I have the summer off from work so I don't really have to do much. The kids at school are in for a big shock when I go back to work. I'll be 19 weeks by then and most likely have a little belly to show off. I don't think I am showing yet, I just look a little chubby. My parents gave us the cutest little giraffe rattle as a congratulations gift and it sort of scared me a little. I guess this is all really happening huh?! Yikes! It doesn't seem real to me yet because I don't look pregnant and can't feel the baby move yet. The sonogram picture looks the same to me as all the other ones I've seen. It's weird to me that it's actually mine. I'm guessing it will set in soon. As for our guesses on what it will be, I almost positive it's going to be a girl. Jacob thinks it's going to be a boy that he wants to name Jake Jr. Cross your fingers that it is, in fact, a girl. :)

Tribute to Lacey

It's very sad to me to look at the post before this one and see my two sweet dogs and read over the sentence when I said that Lacey's sickness was nothing to worry about. It turns out that I was wrong. What We thought was kennel cough turned out to be distemper. Anyone who knows anything about this disease knows that it is bad news. It is a neurological disorder that starts out as a cough and cold and turns into seizures and other not so fun things. It has about an 80 percent mortality rate and even the dogs that do recover still have permanent neurological damage and seizures. We took Lacey to the emergency vet around 9:30 on Monday night because she had been having seizures all day. They kept her there over night to test her and give her medication to stop her seizures. I picked her up Tuesday morning and she just did not look good. I could tell that she was suffering and had the feeling that she wasn't going to get better. I took her to her regular vet and he confirmed this. Just the look on his face when he saw her told me all I needed to know. Unfortunately, there isn't really any treatment for it and she kept getting worse. We made the decision to put her to sleep because We didn't want her to suffer anymore. You all know how much we love our dogs so this decision truly broke our hearts . She was such a sweet little dog and so full of life. We will truly miss her and will never forget her even though she was only with us for such a short time. Here are a couple pictures and a video that remind me of happier times.

Doctor Ace

Poor Lacey has been sick for the past week or so with Kennel Cough. No worries, it's basically just like a cold for dogs. It's kind of annoying but she's so cute I can't get mad at her. There isn't really anything that speeds up the recovery, so we just have to wait it out. One of her symptoms is runny eyes. She tries to rub them with her paw but she can only do so much with her four little toes. Luckily, she has Ace to do it for her. Jacob and I are always saying how much we think Ace use to be a human in his past life and this just further proves our point. He cleans her eyes for her! She sits there quietly and Ace gently licks her eyes until they are clean. I think it is the cutest thing! He takes such good care of his little sister!
